North Mayo Heritage Centre

The research itself is carried out by the centre’s own staff and delivered remotely, and the centre states that its services are available whether or not you can travel to Ireland. It also states that clients are not facilitated to search its records at the centre, so this is a service you commission rather than a collection you visit.

The centre holds records of births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, burials and graves, along with court and land taxation records, some rental records, newspapers and local history material, and says it has access to records from overseas, particularly the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. It is a member of the Irish Family History Foundation.

To begin, the centre asks for the name of an ancestor and, where that ancestor died outside Ireland, the name of at least one of their parents, preferably the mother’s maiden name. Alongside full research it offers a separate assessment service, for people at the very start of their search and for those who already have research they would like reviewed. It states that it cannot supply civil birth or marriage certificates, and that it does not put people directly in touch with living relatives.
